White Sea Alchemy
White Sea Alchemy is the philosophical and creative foundation of my work.
The name is inspired by the meaning of my own name, Mar Blanco, which translates to “White Sea.” The phrase felt poetic enough to become a symbol and framework for the reflective and creative process explored here.
Part philosophy, part studio method, White Sea Alchemy is a way to observe and cultivate the creative process. Rather than separating thinking, learning, and creating, it treats them as part of a single living cycle.
Creative practice is often invisible. Most of what shapes an artist happens in quiet hours of repetition, study, and reflection. White Sea Alchemy gives language and structure to that hidden process. By documenting practice and reflecting on it, we transform effort into understanding — and understanding into creative agency.
From Reflection to Creation
White Sea Alchemy begins with reflection.
Reflection allows us to pause, observe our experience with curiosity, and create space for meaning to emerge.
From reflection grows inquiry, the desire to understand our inner and outer worlds more deeply: the body, the mind, and humankind.
And from inquiry arises creation.
Creation is where knowledge becomes embodied through expression, crafting, and giving the result to the world.
This cycle forms the core structure of my work:
Reflection → Inquiry → Creation
Elemental Framework and Creative Method
The name White Sea Alchemy draws inspiration from the ancient symbolic language of alchemy. Alchemy describes transformation through the imagery of five elements: water, fire, air, earth, and spirit, as a way of understanding change, balance, and growth. I use my own five symbolic forces:
Salt • Tide • Fire • Air • Duende
Each represents a different dimension of the personal and creative transformative process.
- Salt — the distilled truth that remains after experience.
- Tide — rhythm, movement, and the cycles.
- Fire — discipline, energy, and transformation.
- Air — awareness, breath, and space.
- Duende — the spirit element, an almost otherworldly source of motivation and passion that appears in moments of emotional authenticity and rapture.
White Sea Alchemy is not a finished system. It is an evolving exploration, a compendium of reflections, observations, and experiments that accompany my work as a scientist and artist.
This space shares this ongoing exploration.
I hope that White Sea Alchemy invites you to explore your own frameworks of reflection, inquiry, and creation that shape your human experience.
Thank you for being here.
